Here is a list of common questions about my tutoring service:

Do you teach one-on-one or in groups?
I teach one-on-one.

How long have you been tutoring?
I have been tutoring for over 25 years. Please go to about Sarah for more information about me.

Who do you tutor?
I help adults (18 years and older) who are professionals, language school students, international students, permanent residents, and others. I have helped students from many countries in the world.

What levels do you tutor?
I specialize in intermediate and advanced learners only. I do not tutor beginners, as they don’t have the knowledge that is necessary to benefit from my lessons. If you aren’t sure what level you are, please contact me so that I can give you a grammar and vocabulary test to make sure you are at least intermediate.

What do you tutor?
I mainly tutor everyday English, business/professional English, academic English, and preparation for tests such as the CELPIP, Duolingo, and IELTS.* I specialize in improving my students’ speaking and writing. However, as English skills are interconnected, you can also improve your listening, reading, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, phrasal verbs, and idioms during my lessons. I also offer special lessons on phrasal verbs for high-intermediate and advanced learners.

How much do your lessons cost?
I have two types of lessons, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 lessons, where you choose the content of each lesson (with my help), are $25/hour (student)  and $30/hour (regular).** Type 2 lessons, which I prepare and/or give you homework for, are $45/hour (student) and $50/hour (regular).** A Type 2 lessons includes a one-hour lesson and one hour of preparation by me. Please go to speaking and writing for more information.

I also offer special phrasal verbs lessons for $35/hour (student) and $40/hour (regular), which include a one-hour lesson and 30 minutes of preparation.  Please go to phrasal verbs for more information.

When do you tutor?
My schedule is from 12 pm to 9 pm AST/ADT (Atlantic Standard Time/Atlantic Daylight Time), Monday to Friday, which is -3 or -4 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), depending on the time of year. I also work on Saturday from 12 pm to 6 pm. Please click here for a time zone conversion website. Halifax, where I live, is listed as Canada – Nova Scotia – Halifax.

Where do you tutor?
I tutor online from my home office.  I find online lessons more convenient, private, and, most importantly, effective than in-person lessons.

How long is each lesson?
I recommend that you choose lessons that are 1 hour or 1.5 hours. Because tutoring is more intensive than language school classes, I do not usually recommend longer lessons. However, longer lessons are possible, especially if you need short-term tutoring (one month or less).

How many lessons should I take each week?
I recommend one to three lessons per week. However, if you need short-term tutoring (one to four weeks), more lessons are possible.

How long should I study with you?
How long you want tutoring is up to you. Some of my students have worked with me for six months or more, while others need only a week or two of intensive tutoring.
