Grand Pré, Nova Scotia (September 2023)
I am a native speaker of English who grew up in Halifax, Canada. I have tutored and taught ESL for over 25 years, in Halifax, Toronto, and Guelph (all are in Canada) in addition to online. As well as a degree in English literature from Dalhousie University in Halifax, I have a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate and a Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate. If you are interested in learning the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP), I also have CELPIP Instructor Training – Level 1 and Level 2 (Advanced) certificates.
I have lived in a foreign country (Mexico) and studied three foreign languages to the intermediate level (Spanish, French, and German), so I understand what my students experience when they learn English.
One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is getting to know my students and making their lessons effective. During my lessons, I try to create a comfortable and stimulating environment where my students can focus on learning and have fun at the same time.
I am enthusiastic, am very patient, and have a good sense of humour. I also really love English!
In my free time, my interests include going for walks, nature, yoga, biking, art and design, classic and modern literature, journalling, and spiritual psychology. Musically, I am a fan of Sarah McLachlan and Aurora.
